Mad, self-obsessed, obnoxious, narcissistic, . . . The course of true love never did run smooth, said Shakespeare. ;)
It can get difficult to understand why some people might not like you for liking yourself. They may gladly (at least seemingly) join you if you were to shower bucket loads of love upon some new object, event or person. But, if you were to show affection for your own self, if you were to get cozy with who you are and show it, they aren’t going to like it.
People are going to want you to adhere to their ideas of maturity and expression. Maybe they like people to like themselves less. Maybe they like people to not have sufficent reason to like themselves too much. Maybe that makes them feel more at peace. Because maybe it shakes their ideas of self-worth. Because maybe they are needing reasons to like themselves enough. Because maybe somewhere inside they are searching for a corner where they too could smother themselves with self-love.
“Love yourself. If they call you mad, teach them to love themselves.”
